The 23rd Icheon Ceramic Festival

The city of Icheon presents the 23rd Icheon Ceramic Festival through May 24, with the theme of ¡°Adventures of the Fire.¡± The city is also simultaneously hosting the 5th World Ceramic Biennale Korea. During the festival, participants can encounter natural spaces, emotional experiences, and the far-reaching history of the ceramics world. During the festival, various programs are on offer through which visitors can make Eastern- and Western-style ceramic pieces and students and family visitors can enjoy themselves.
Icheon is a city that boasts a thousand-year history of ceramics. Visitors can see splendid and sophisticated jade-colored celadon porcelains, neat and graceful white porcelains, and wild and unfettered grayish-blue powdered celadon.
The festival also features experience events like the ¡°Batubatu Clay Warehouse,¡± where participants walk and play on the clay with bare feet; the ¡°Ceramic Excavation Experience,¡± an archeological class looking at ceramic relics in order to find traces left by Korean ancestors; the ¡°Private Ceramic Workshop,¡± where visitors can make their own ceramics; ¡°Ceramic Education with Play,¡± showing the whole process from kneading clay to firing pottery; and ¡°Spinning the Potter¡¯s Wheel,¡± where people can create works with shapes of their own. In addition to these events, the festival offers various exhibitions and activities. Visitors can visit Icheon for the ceramic festival, eat a bowl of Icheon¡¯s delicious broiled rice, and drop by the town¡¯s famous hot springs to take a rest.
